Style Diaries | Casual Summer Friday

Sometimes you see an outfit + have to recreate it in with your own style. Wanna see my inspiration for this outfit? It’s my best friend Becca. See the OG here. Is she not the most stunning thing? Becca’s been one of my style inspirations the entire time I’ve  known her. I just don’t have the ability to look cute in a candid photo. So I did what any awkward fashionista does, I asked my work bestie, little Joe, to take my picture while I stood in a typical Chellie pose against a blank wall + under fluorescents in our office.

Because florescents are my favorite kind of lighting…

Since I’ve lost weight, I’ve started to get a bit more brave with my fashion choices. For the last few years, I’ve been lusting after trends too scared to try them myself as I didn’t think they’d look flattering on me. I still stay away from pieces that don’t show off my waist because I’ll look like I don’t have one + I go straight from my armpits to my knees. But I’ve been loving the off-the shoulder + cold shoulder looks lately so I’ve been scouring clothing racks at my favorite stores looking for the perfect pieces. When I came across this top at Forever 21 + saw the adorable bows on the sleeves, I knew it was the one I’d been looking for. Not to mention the nod-to-nautical stripes. And, in true Forever 21 fashion, I can’t find it on their website to share it with you. But they do have some other cute blue off the shoulder options you should check out.

Becca has the legs for destroyed jeans. For whatever reason, whatever leg quality that’s required to pull off destroyed jeans, I do not possess. I recently ordered a pair of destroyed white jeans as they were on sale this week at Abercrombie & Fitch + as I fit in their clothes again, I decided to give them a shot. If I don’t love them, I’ll send them back. So a few months ago, I opted for a pair of Old Navy’s Stay White Rockstars. As you might expect, they aren’t as perfect as they claim to be. I got some kind of something on them in LA back in May (the last time I wore them) + if you look at the left knee, it’s still faintly there. I am not the kind of girl who’s neat enough to pull off white jeans + keep them white but that doesn’t mean I won’t try. **insert sassy customer service emoji girl here**

I’ve also started wearing heels again. For years I just couldn’t hang in them + I’m usually the type of person that insists on being married to my heels until I come home (except on my 24th birthday–not a good look). I learned that from Jenna Marbles. Suddenly wearing heels made me hurt EVERYWHERE + I didn’t know why. I was wearing wedges for the last year because they were the only way I could get height without feeling like I’m dying. I bought a pair of chunky black heels at Target (where else?) back in April + now I’m hooked. Still inspired by Becca’s look, I knew I needed tan sandals. These jumped off the shelf at me + I love them. They’re adjustable for my wide feet + comfortable to wear all day + all night.

Try off the shoulder + white for your next casual Friday or lunch date. Happy shopping! 🙂
