Style Diaries | Last Minute Costume Idea

Halloween is eight days away. Is your costume ready? My main costume for this coming weekend + costume for Halloween itself are. But I found myself headed to a party last minute this weekend that I needed to throw a costume together for. It’s quick, easy + inexpensive Check it out!

“Hey I’ve had a change of plans. Is the invite for tonight still open?” –Me to my old friend Katie early Saturday afternoon.

Saturday I was supposed to go out with my friends Ashley + Steph so I’d declined Katie’s invite to her annual Halloween party. But while I was taking a Saturday morning nap (I arrived back from North Carolina early that morning.), Ashley texted telling us she wasn’t feeling well + that she had to cancel. I knew she must really be sick because, like me, she hates cancelling plans last minute. So while I was exhausted + felt the beginnings of my first sick bug in almost a year, I texted Katie to see if I could still get my Halloween on.

If you don’t take a mirror selfie for Snapchat, does the outfit really count?

Last year I didn’t have the best time. Somehow I ended up bawling on the shoulder of an old high school friend I hadn’t seen in years about, you guessed it, a guy. Another example of why you won’t hear any guy advice on this blog. In my mind they’re all the same + they all have the same intention: to hurt you. So just dump them. Okay that’s not totally true. Some of my friends have found their perfect guy + that’s awesome. But my perfect guy’s name is Netflix. So I was determined to have a good time. But I also needed to put a costume together. Lauren Conrad reveals her costume early every year, but I don’t. A few friends may know, but y’all will see it after Saturday. I needed something cute, simple + low key as Katie’s party is very laid back.

With two additional steps to my makeup routine, I could have asked for an easier look?

Off to Pinterest I went. Search: Quick Halloween Costumes. There are some great ideas to be found there. But up top there was an add for a floppy hat with a picture of a scarecrow costume. On quick glance across the room to my closet confirmed I had all pieces necessary to create this look. I had just bought a brown hat at Target which would be the perfect hat to top off this quick, easy + inexpensive last-minute look. Essentials for this look are:

  • Plaid/flannel shirt. I opted for strictly plaid. It was far too warm Saturday night for flannel.
  • Jeans/fall skirt. I was going to wear my favorite jeans but remembered I bought this awesome red corduroy skirt + hadn’t worn it yet.
  • Boots. I have some little western-style (but not cowboy) boots I could have worn but I’m in love with my new brown riding boots. Either will work.
  • Brown/Black hat depending on the other colors you’re wearing. I went with this brown hat as it better complimented my blue/red orange shirt + burgundy skirt.
  • OPTIONAL: Hay for pockets, hat + boots. I would have been itchy so that was not happening for me.

The makeup for this look was so easy! I did my regular go-to face with my Tarteiest Pro palette. For eyeshadow I used: classic, vintage, chic + profesh. Then I used a cheep drugstore eyeliner for the smile and the patches on my nose + forehead (not pictured). As I have oily skin, I had to draw slowly with the eyeliner for it to show up dark enough. I filled in the patches with Tarteist Pro’s edgy. You can opt for a bright blush on your cheeks, however I don’t wear blush since my face is red enough as it is. Also, I have to give a shoutout to my Urban Decay Vice lipstick. I’m wearing Troublemaker, which was a special edition color last year. It’s one of my favorites. The Vice line is great because there are so many color options + they’ll last all day or night. I played several rounds of flip cup without it budging.

I highly recommend this costume if you need something quick + inexpensive. I can wear all of these pieces again + all of them to work. Since we’ve finally solidified what we’re doing as our theme for work + I’m going to have to pay for a costume for that, I’m glad I found all of these pieces in my closet. Stay tuned for my other three costumes!
