Monday Must-Haves | Giving Lip

If I were to rank the most important things in a face, they would be:

  1. Eyes

  2. Teeth
  3. Lips

I mean this is my opinion, but these are the three things I put as top priority when it comes to caring for the front of my noggin. There isn’t much room priority wise between these three either. With the lips being one of the thinnest skins on your entire body with almost no melanin to protect them from the sun, it’s our job to look out for them!

In junior high, I always had Carmex in my desk *shudder* Carmex is terrible for your lips. By high school I’d moved on to Burt’s Bees. *yikes* I don’t endorse that either. I never even realize that they were making my cracked winter lips + equally cracked summer lips (I have anxiety, guys. I’m always biting them. It’s not sexy.) But I’ve discovered my solution + it comes in two small tubes!

The first is Blistex’s Complete Moisture, which I discovered back in college. I picked it up on a whim in line at, where else, Target. We were in the midst of an awful winter + it was taking its toll on my poor baby lips. I grabbed it off its hook, tossed it on the belt + hoped for the best. A week later, my lips stopped hurting + not a minute too soon. I was sure I was one gust of wind from needing a lip transplant. You can find Blistex Complete Moisture at any drug store or grocery store near you. The best price for it? Bed Bath & Beyond for $1.69. I know, I was surprised, too! But I’m not just looking out for my wallet, I’m looking out for yours, too.

My only complaint about Complete Moisture is that it’s colorless (which isn’t the real issue) + I can’t put a color over it. I hate when my lips are naked color-wise. At Christmastime, Sephora’s Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rosé came into my life as a gift from a coworker. She + her daughter had recently discovered it + she was passing the discovery on to me. Little did she know she was about to change my life with one little tube. This SPF 15 tinted lip balm made with sugar to prevent moisture loss was the answer to prayers I didn’t know what I was saying. This one comes at a steeper price point of $24 + I’ll be the first to tell you: if my coworker hadn’t bought my first tube, I never would spend that much on lip balm. It sounds insane. It’s not made of gold, it doesn’t come in a diamond-encrusted tube (but I still wouldn’t pay for that). But my entire skin care regimen is Fresh so I knew this product would measure up to that standard + it did.  It’s flavorless, which is great because I’m not a second grader smearing Lip Smackers’ Mint Coco Chip over half of my face. There’s just a hint of a scent that I can’t place, but anything I put that close to my nose + have to breathe in all day has to smell good + this fits the bill.

Despite the “steep-for-lip balm” price tag, I highly recommend giving this + Complete Moisture a shot. Whether you’re looking for kissably soft lips, or just “not winter lips,” both do the job!
