Style Diaries | Navy Nights

One of my favorite things is food, but this post is not about food, it’s about a dress I wore recently while out to dinner. I used to eat a lot more when I wasn’t healthy. Sometimes I still eat more than I should because my eyes can get bigger than my stomach. Thankfully this was not the case when Gab + I went to dinner with our moms a few weeks ago. Gab has always had the most eclectic style, she wears whatever she wants + always owns sidewalks like their runways. I’m the opposite. I send a picture of an outfit to 12 people + get their approval before stepping out of my house. My style has been getting braver as I’m starting to fall in love with who I’m becoming as I lose weight, tone muscle + discover confidence I’ve never had.

Before meeting Flynn for our breakfast date at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort in June.

Shopping with me always causes my friends anxiety, but it’s fine because I’m fighting my own anxiety as well. I almost never try anything on in the store. Something happened 90 lbs ago in a fitting room that I must have blocked out that causes an aversion to them for me. I would so much rather buy whatever, try it on in my house as opposed to a fitting room where I feel so exposed + uncomfortable. So I’ll grab something I’m pretty sure I’ll like + buy it. I laugh every time I shop with my friend Nina because she always apologizes because she tries everything on as if I’ll be frustrated because I never try anything on. As if! By all means, try away! I’ll be waiting outside every time in case you want my opinion.

I grabbed this dress off the rack at Francesca’s back in May when I was looking for a dress to wear on a date that night. (Sidenote: you will NEVER find dating advice here. I’m stumbling around like the rest of us + have been played by every type there is. Don’t ask me, I’ll just tell you to break up with the person. That always works!) I grabbed two other dresses and ended up wearing one of the other two on the date. I packed this one away to wear at Disney later that week when we had breakfast with Prince Eric + Flynn Rider.

Gab + I at South Pond in Lincoln Park.

Fast forward to July. Gab + her family were in town and in almost 11 years of friendship, our moms had never met. So we dragged them to one of our favorite restaurants in Lincoln Park, RJ Grunts. If you ever find yourself looking for a good burger in Lincoln Park, especially after a jaunt through the zoo across the street, I highly recommend it! I’ve switched to turkey burgers on occasion + they’re just as delicious as their beef. Gab looked awesome as always in light wash boyfriend jeans + an old flower top I’d seen her in a million times but she’s got a face to make you forget her outfits. I only remember because I’m ridiculous + weird. I always remember outfits. So I donned this dress.

Thankfully it still looked as lovely as it did the first time I wore it in early June. There’s nothing that irks me more than when I can’t wear something more than once. That place is reserved for prom dresses + wedding gowns. It’s flowy, it’s soft, it hides the fact that I ate too many house chips with my turkey burger. It also subscribes to my signature style of exposed shoulders this season. If I can’t be cute + comfy at the same time, I’m not here for it. At just over a month out from my 27th birthday, I think I’m old. The upper 20s is a strange concept for me to grasp. But while I’m here, I’m buying $44 comfy dresses at Francesca’s, eating more turkey burgers + loving life as much as I can!
