Food for Thought | Turkey Burgers
A year + a half ago, I would have whined for an hour if turkey burgers were being served for dinner, but like everything else, seasoning is everything. I’ve now become the person who seeks out delicious turkey burgers + makes them at home. I’m still working on trying to keep them from sticking to the grill or to the frying pan, but so far avocado oil works best. If you’ve got any ideas for me, please drop them in the comments. This recipe yields six fairly large burgers, enough for my parents + I to both have dinner tonight + lunch tomorrow.
Ingredients:
- two tablespoons avocado oil (more if necessary)
- two one-pound packages of ground turkey. I used Simply Balanced 99% lean turkey from Target because it was 10% off on Cartwheel this week
- two eggs
- two large tablespoons of minced garlic (we like garlic in our house)
- one palm full of red pepper flakes
- one palm full of parsley. I used dried because that’s what we had at home, but I prefer fresh
- salt + pepper to taste
- one palm full of finely shredded mozzarella cheese
- sliced cheese (optional) I typically use Swiss or Harvati
- bun or roll of your choice (optional) I typically let my turkey burgers free bird
Directions:
- Heat oil in a skillet on medium high heat or heat your grill to 450*.
- In a large bowl combine turkey, eggs, garlic, red pepper flakes, parsley, mozzarella, salt + pepper.
- Form patties to your preferred size. These make great sliders if you’re serving multiple people.
- Cook for at least 7 minutes on each side. If you don’t cook them long enough before flipping, they’ll fall apart.
- Dress with cheese, bread, veggies + condiments of your choice.
- Enjoy!
Let me know what you think!
xo.

As for the grill, before putting the patties (or anything else) down on the hot grill, I use tongs (ones that can stand high heat) to wipe the grill with a coffee filter dipped in canola oil (must be an oil that can handle high heat – not olive, avocado, etc.). They make fancy silicone grill brushes for this, but why spend the money when you have tongs and coffee filters?
